CeruShield Disk No Longer Available: Here Are Your Options
In a nutshell: The CeruShield Disk wax filters for 4.0 generation receivers (Phonak, Unitron, Hansaton) have been discontinued by the manufacturer Phonak and are only available as residual stock from third-party providers. The permanent solution: switching to the 5.0 generation receiver with the proven CeruStop filter system. It fits the same hearing aids; you simply choose the same length, power, and side as your previous receiver.
Why is the CeruShield Disk no longer available?
The CeruShield Disk was exclusively used in 4.0 generation receivers. The filter system was prone to errors and cumbersome to handle in everyday use, which we observed in our specialist store for years. With the 5.0 generation receiver, Phonak therefore switched to the much more proven CeruStop system and gradually discontinued the 4.0 receivers and CeruShield filters. For about a year now, the filters have only been available from third-party providers, and no official replenishment is expected.
Am I affected?
You are affected if your RIC hearing aid from Phonak, Unitron, or Hansaton uses a 4.0 generation receiver, for example, on a Phonak Audéo Marvel, Paradise, or Lumity. You can identify if your receiver is a 4.0 by the CeruShield filter system with the typical filter disk. If you are unsure: Send us a photo of your receiver by email or WhatsApp, and our master hearing acousticians will take a look.
Your two options
Option 1: Purchase remaining stock. Some third-party providers still sell residual CeruShield stock. This buys you time but doesn't solve the problem: Supplies are dwindling, prices are rising, and the error-prone handling remains unchanged. That's why we deliberately decided not to offer these filters.
Option 2: Switch to the 5.0 receiver (our recommendation). The SDS 5.0 receiver is the direct successor to the 4.0. Technically, both receivers are identical; only the filter system has changed: Instead of the CeruShield Disk, the 5.0 uses the CeruStop system, whose filters are permanently and affordably available and can be changed in seconds. The switch is uncomplicated: choose the same length, same power (S, M, or P), same side, and you're done. No adjustment by an acoustician is necessary.
How to switch
The length (0 to 3) and power are printed on your current receiver. If the numbers are no longer legible, our photo service can help: send us a picture, and we will advise you. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I continue to use my 4.0 receiver?
Yes, as long as it works and you still have filters. However, you should not wear the receiver permanently without a fresh wax filter, as penetrating earwax is the most common cause of defective receivers.
Is the SDS 5.0 guaranteed to fit my hearing aid?
The SDS 5.0 has the same 3-pin connector as the 4.0 and fits Phonak Audéo Lumity, Paradise, and Marvel, as well as the corresponding Unitron and Hansaton models. You can find the complete compatibility table on the product page.
Do I need to go to an acoustician for the switch?
